A police officer has denied a domestic assault charge against his partner and will go to trial.
In April, Constable Lomitusi Lomi, 24, was charged with injuring with intent to injure, which carries a maximum of five years' imprisonment.
According to court documents, the alleged incident took place that month and the victim is understood to be the defendant's partner.
At Waitakere District Court this morning Lomi - dressed in a black suit and shirt - pleaded not guilty to the charge.
His lawyer Richard Earwaker elected trial by jury on behalf of his client.
Inspector Jacqui Whittaker said the officer was stood down from duties on Monday and was the subject of an internal police investigation, which would be concluded once criminal proceedings were completed.
Lomi was remanded on bail until July.
