Police name Sabre Peak victims while Aoraki/Mt Cook search goes on

Police have released the names of the two climbers who died on the north buttress of Sabre Peak, Fiordland at the weekend.

They were 28-year-old Connor Scott McKenzie, a dual citizen of New Zealand and Canada, and 23-year-old Australian citizen Tanmay Shetankumar Bhati. Both men lived in Australia.

Meanwhile, the search for two more climbers missing on Aoraki/Mt Cook continues today, after challenging weather conditions.

“Last night around 8.30pm, a weather window opened, and a helicopter was deployed to conduct a search for the climbers missing on Aoraki/Mt Cook.

“The route the climbers took from Pinnacle hut, Linda Glacier to the summit, was searched by the helicopter team, unfortunately, nothing was located,” said the update from police.

An area search of the intended route commenced at around 10am today.
