Police say they have located a body reported washed up on a west Auckland beach.
The remote location and problems with tides meant it took a helicopter three hours to find the body at Muriwai Beach, 45km west of downtown Auckland, after people four wheel driving on the beach reported the find shortly after 9am, police said in a statement.
There was nothing to suggest suspicious circumstances but CIB staff were attending as a precaution.
