Mr Brown said police remained committed to maintaining a station in Greytown.
"We are committed to making people in Greytown feel safe and we will be making sure that the site is fit for purpose, so officers can deliver on that."
It was hoped a new site could be found by the beginning of November, Mr Brown said.
Derek Wilson, chairman of Greytown Trust Lands Trust, which owns the Kuratawhiti station site, said the trust was still deciding what would happen to the property.
"It's a difficult site. It's not an easy site to accommodate another building ... it's certainly up in the air."
The trust was "looking to the future" in its discussions over what would should be done with the site, he said.
According to its website, Greytown Trust Lands Trust owns nine key buildings and properties in Greytown, seven other commercial sections and some residential sections.
