Police are reviewing security camera footage as they investigate the puzzling death of a security guard on his first day on the job.
Waitakere CIB investigators are continuing their inquiries into the "unexplained" death of Charanpreet Dhaliwal, who was found dead at a west Auckland construction site on Friday.
The22-year-old was reportedly found slumped over a concrete slab at a Fulton Hogan construction site, near the Lincoln Rd North Western Motorway overbridge in Henderson.
The man was reportedly working his first shift for CNE, a security company subcontracted by Fulton Hogan.
Waitakere District Field Crime Manager Detective Inspector Greg Cramer said the circumstances around the victim's death were still unclear, and police were keeping an open mind.
"A post mortem examination has been conducted. This is normal practise in the case of an unexplained death. In all such cases a thorough investigation is carried out to determine the circumstances leading to death."
"We are reviewing security surveillance images from several sources and talking to a number of people who were in the vicinity of the construction site early on Friday morning."
He said kaumatua, Sikh community representatives, management and staff from the construction and security companies had gathered for a ceremony this morning to bless the site.
He asked anyone with information or who was in the area last Friday 18 November 2011 to come forward by calling the Waitakere CIB on 09 839 0600 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
