Police in the South Island are investigating two serious assaults overnight.
The first happened in Invercargill at midnight. A 47-year-old man was seriously injured after he was assaulted outside Tillerman's Bar on Don St.
He was taken to Dunedin Hospital and remains in a serious condition.
At 3.30am a 21-year-old
male was stabbed in the neck and back outside a bottle store on the corner of Princess St and Moray Place in central Dunedin.
He also remains in Dunedin Hospital.
