He said the nude man told him to “go away”.
Another couple of regular dog walkers who used the same bush track said they suspected they had come across the same man.
They said the next day they discovered a tub of petroleum jelly and latex gloves in the area where he was seen.
“Thankfully, our access to that particular track wasn’t easily accessible to younger or older people of our community.”
North Shore councillor Richard Hills called the incident “scary and gross”.
“I hope police take it seriously.
“I ask the public to report anything suspicious to 111. It’s quite serious and not something we’d want anyone to experience, potentially even more disturbing, kids or women walking alone.”
Kaipātiki Local Board chairwoman Danielle Grant said it was a “very unusual” situation.
The board would work closely with police to understand what had taken place.
It was holding “one of many” meetings with police today about community safety, given the rise of rough sleepers on the North Shore, and would discuss the latest incident too.
She said the best thing someone could do if they came across something similar was to call 111.
Police confirmed a report had been made at 6.30am and an investigation had been opened.
