Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal accident involving a motorcycle on Paekakariki Hill Road yesterday.
Detective Sergeant Shane Rongonui said the motorcycle was travelling southbound over the hill around 3.25pm when it was struck by a car.
"On the south side approximately 1 kilometre from the summit, acar travelling northbound was turning into a driveway when it was struck in the rear side by the motorcycle. Sadly, the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and died at the scene."
The body of the 58-year-old Kapiti Coast man was found on Paekakariki Hill Rd by a roading contractor soon after.
Mr Rongonui said the driver of the car and the children inside the vehicle were very shaken but unharmed.
Paekakariki Hill Road was closed to all but residents for about three hours while the Police Serious Crash Unit examined the scene.
"We would like to speak to anyone who may have been travelling over the hill at the time of the crash and may have seen a yellow and black Suzuki GSX 1000 motorcycle travelling south and/or a Silver four door Ford Mondeo travelling north," Mr Rongonui said.
