Police investigate at Christchurch property after baby suffers unexplained injuries

A police investigation is underway after a baby suffered serious unexplained injuries at a Christchurch property.

Several police officers could be seen today at a property on Barbadoes St.

RNZ understands the investigation relates to a baby who is now in Christchurch Hospital.

Officers are undertaking inquiries to establish how the infant came to be injured, including speaking with family members, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnson said.

Residents of Barbadoes St may see a police presence in the coming days as officers conduct area inquiries.

It is understood the baby’s injuries are being treated as unexplained.
