Police investigate after fatal fire in Te Aroha

A 78-year-old man has died after a house fire in the Waikato town of Te Aroha last night.

The Fire Service were called to the Centennial Avenue unit about 8.47pm after the activation of a medic alert at the address.

On arrival crews found the unit well ablaze.

Police said the man was pulled from the house but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

The fire is believed to have started in the longue.

It is believed the man was the only person inside the unit at the time of the blaze.
Police and fire safety are investigating the fire.
