Police investigate after body found

Police are treating as suspicious the discovery of a woman's body at a block of Wellington flats yesterday afternoon.

Acting Detective Inspector Scott Miller said police were conducting a scene examination at Newtown Park Flats on Mansfield Street and would treat the find as suspicious "until further information is available".

He said the woman's body would be removed later today.

"A post-mortem examination will help us determine the cause of death."

The deceased has not yet been formally identified.

Police asked anyone who had seen activity at Flat 166 Newtown Park Flats over the past week to call them on (04) 381 2000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
