Police identify crash victim

Police have identified the man who died in a car crash just north of Wellington early yesterday morning.

He was 19-year-old Riki Wallace-Kirk, a labourer from Paraparaumu, on the Kapiti Coast.

Sergeant Bruce Mackay from central police communications said a car, with five occupants, crashed about 3am, near Johnsonville.

Another 19-year-old was taken to Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit.

The three other occupants of the vehicle received minor to moderate injuries.

Mr Mackay said police were investigating the crash and the cause was not yet known, but it was believed that speed, conditions, and possibly alcohol were contributing factors.
