Police hold 'grave fears' for missing Alexandra man Christopher Bates

Police now say they have grave concerns for an Alexandra man who has been missing for nearly a week.

The last confirmed sighting of Christopher James Bates was 3.50pm on Sunday 11 February when he was seen at the Z service station on Tarbert St.

The 22-year-old has not accessed his bank accounts or used his cellphone since.

He had been heading to a river to meet a friend.

Police said this morning they were briefing a LandSAR team and would be carrying out an extensive land and water based search in the wider Alexandra area.

Detective Sergeant Cameron described Mr Bates as of slim build, about 180cm tall, with short to medium length brown hair and brown eyes.

Mr Bates was wearing a grey hoodie, white T-shirt, dark shorts and sneakers. He was reported missing on Thursday.
