Police fired a shot after they were confronted by a man they believed was holding a firearm at a house in Mangere this evening.
Three officers went to the house about 6.40pm to make an arrest.
When they got there they were "set upon'' by family members of the wantedman.
"At this time, a man at the address presented what police believe to be a firearm. One of the officers believed he was in danger and in response one shot was fired by police,'' a statement from police said.
The police officers retreated and the area was cordoned off until more staff, including the armed offenders squad, arrived.
Police managed to arrest one man at the scene and after a short manhunt arrested a second man, Harlem Langley without further incident. He will appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow charged with assaulting Police
There was no indication at this stage that anyone was hit by or injured as a result of the shot fired by police.
An investigation into the incident had begun and the Independent Police Conduct Authority had been notified.
