Police find car wanted after reported abduction

Auckland Police are forensically examining the car a woman was forced into this week in Newmarket.

The silver Ford Falcon with distinctive black panels was found parked on Ferguson Ave in the neighbouring suburb of Greenlane after police asked for help from the public yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin said the vehicle had also been reported as being in the Parnell area.

"We're seeking to hear from anybody that may know of a resident in and around Parnell that the vehicle may be associated to."

The possible abduction happened on Tuesday morning, when witnesses in the central suburb of Newmarket saw a man violently shove the woman into the car.

Police are still searching for the woman, who is described as being of a medium athletic build and about 165cm tall. She is of Maori or Pacific Island descent and has long brown or black hair, which was tied in a ponytail. She was wearing a turquoise sweater and is estimated to be in her 20-30s.

Baldwin believed the two people know each other, but the circumstances were alarming.

"The way the incident has been described to us is cause for concern.

"We need to speak with the woman involved, and verify that she's okay."
