Save A fleeing driver tried to evade police on a 30km chase on Auckland's Northern Motorway during rush hour this morning.
Police said the driver failed to stop for police around 9am and drove north on the motorway.
The pursued driver finally came to a stop 30km away, near the Johnstones
Hill Tunnels.
Motorists on the motorway at the time reported seeing a fleet of police cars and a low-flying helicopter giving chase.
A police spokeswoman said the road was spiked but the chase ended when the vehicle broke down near the tunnel.
