Police car 'badly damaged' in crash on Auckland's North Shore

A police car has been badly banged up in a two-car crash on Auckland's North Shore this afternoon.

The patrol car was on its way to a priority job with its lights flashing and sirens blaring when it collided with another vehicle, a police spokeswoman said.

Police were called at 4.15pm to the crash, at the intersection of East Coast Rd and Carlisle Rd in Northcross, she said.

"Both the patrol car and the other vehicle involved were badly damaged. The patrol car has been taken off the road.

No one was hurt in the crash, the spokeswoman said.

The circumstances surrounding the crash will be investigated.

Police did not respond to a question from the Herald about how fast they were driving at the time of the crash.

In 2015 official documents showed police staff were to blame around 60 per cent of the 810 police car crashes that year.

However, that figure included minor incidents such as dings caused by reversing out of parking spots.
