Police capture sheep on motorway

Police made an unusual capture today -- a runaway sheep playing dodgems with rush hour traffic on State Highway 1 leading into Wellington.

Two constables and a railway worker rounded up the sheep, which had escaped from a nearby meatworks.

"Police were called after motorists spotted the sheep weaving down the northbound lanes and footpath," a spokeswoman said. "The animal had an injured leg, possibly from being hit by a vehicle."

It was returned to the meatworks.
