Police assault trial aborted

The trial of a former constable accused of assaulting a West Coast man was aborted by Judge Murray Abbott in the Greymouth District Court today. Lindsay Donald Egerton was accused of injuring Brian Raymond Terry with intent at Reefton on January 17, 1999.

Mr Terry had completed his evidence-in-chief but had not been cross-examined when Judge Abbott discharged the jury and aborted the trial, suppressing the reasons for his decision.

A new trial date will be set for next year.
