Police are appealing to the public for information about a man who sparked a bomb scare in South Auckland yesterday morning.
The man, described as a light-skinned Polynesian wearing a black wig, entered the BNZ on the corner of Ronwood Ave and Great South Rd in Manukau claiming to havean explosive device.
After the man left with a small amount of money, the bomb squad found the device was a hoax.
Police were alerted to the incident at 10.35am, and businesses around the bank were evacuated as a safety precaution.
Police today said they wanted to hear from anyone who could help with identifying the man, who had been caught on CCTV footage in the bank.
At the time, the man was wearing a black jacket, light jeans and black shoes with white stripes and carrying a black bag.
"Even though the bomb threat was a hoax it doesn't make the incident any less traumatic for those in the area who thought their lives were at risk,'' police said.
