Patel told the Herald he saw a black car driving “speedily” down the road, colliding with a red car and then veering into the bus.
He said the bus driver looked to be in a “stable condition”.
“It was a very loud noise, like a tree had fallen down,” he said.
The store manager said the black car was “very badly impacted”, and it looked like emergency services would be at the scene for a while.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the crash at Jervois Rd and Blake St at 3.55pm.
A St John spokesperson said they responded with three ambulances and two rapid response vehicles.
“Four patients were assessed by the crews at the scene, with two transported to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition and one transported to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition,” the spokesperson said.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand told the Herald they were notified of a crash involving a bus and a car at 3.55pm.
A spokesperson for the service said no one was trapped in the incident.
Fire and Emergency said two fire engines attended and have since left the scene.
Multiple police cars and ambulances were seen “ripping” along Ponsonby Rd.
A witness said they saw four police cars and three ambulances.
