Footage of a New Zealand policeman using his cell phone while driving has emerged online.
The video appeared on the popular Facebook page "The Bro Hub" but it is not known when or where in New Zealand it was shot.
The short clip was taken from the back seat ofthe police car and shows the policeman using his cell phone while driving the vehicle.
Contacted by the NZ Herald, police explained that, under Section 7.3A of the Land Transport (Road USer) Rule 2004, enforcement officers can use mobile phones while driving, "if the use of the phone is in the execution of the officer's duty".
"Police employees who breach land transport legislation are treated no differently to members of the public, and depending on the circumstances may be subject to further disciplinary action," a spokesperson said.
While we weren't able to confirm whether the officer in question was using the phone for personal or professional matters, NZ Police confirmed "it is a police phone being used in the footage".
The video has been viewed nearly 8000 times in just half a day.
