Two notable statistics were achieved during the sixth round of matches in the Wairarapa-Bush Rugby Union's Tui Cup premier division competition on Saturday.
The number of points scored topped the 1000 mark - now sitting on 1061 - and the number of tries recorded reached 150.
Leading individual scorerin the Tui Cup is East Coast fullback Nick Olson who is sitting on 54 points, one more than Gladstone's Cameron Hayton. Then come Joseph Thompson (Pioneer), 45, and Glen Walters (Greytown), 43. However, when you take the Kapene Cup series into consideration as well it is Hayton who leads the way with 170 points, followed by Thompson 130 and Tipene Haira (Martinborough) 117.
Promising Greytown midfield back Teihana Brown, who has had a two-week stint at the International Rugby Academy in Palmerston North where he came under the guidance of former All Black Eroni Clarke and was announced as the "most promising player", is the top try-scorer in the Tui Cup with seven, one more than Nathan Hunt (Martinborough) and Damian Kamo-Paku (Pioneer).
Greytown has scored the most overall points of any club when the Kapene and Tui Cup competitions are combined. They have amassed 449, followed by Pioneer 367, East Coast 328, Martinborough 304, Eketahuna 286 Gladstone 278, Carterton 247, Bush Sports 176 and Marist 150.
Meanwhile, the Rathkeale College first XV was beaten 20-18 by St Peter's School in a match played at Rathkeale College. It was 17-15 to St Peters at half-time and both teams managed just the one penalty goal in the second spell. Sam Tufuga and Kyle Waitere scored tries for Rathkeale and Josh Blatchford kicked two penalties and one conversion.
