Runners and walkers have an opportunity to take to the roads this Anzac Day with a series of events organised and sponsored by Ray Wallis.
Racing gets under way at Dalefield Hall at 1pm with an U12 boys/girls run over 2km, followed by an U16 mixed gender run over5km at 1.30pm. A fun run/walk also starts at 1.30pm together with a 10km Open Walk event and the final event is an Open Race over 10km beginning at 2.20pm.
All events take place on flat, tarsealed roads with merit prizes awarded for various grades and spot prizes also available for the 5km fun runners and walkers. More spot prizes will be awarded for all entries provided the winners are present to receive them.
Entry fees from $2 to $10 apply, with all fees going to the Child Cancer Foundation.
Early entries contain a couple of sports personalities in the 10km walk, with 86-year-old Peter Tearle among those strutting their stuff. In the 10km run. Mike Stewart from the Hutt Valley will be using the day as a warm-up for the Rotorua Marathon. Mike is the only New Zealander to compete in over 500 marathons, all run in New Zealand.
This event is one of the few in the lower North Island with merit prizes for walkers and runners in the masters with five age groups.
