Plants fly out the door at sale

The second-ever Opaki School Garden Party plant sale on Sunday wasn't just a fundraiser, but an opportunity for the community to get together.

Crowds queued at the school for the sale to start and the estimated 4000 plants were almost sold out by lunchtime.

Organisers Erica Kinder and Pam Blackburn were stoked with how the day went.

"It's just been a fabulous day," said Mrs Blackburn.

"We've had huge support from the school, and the parents and the kids."

Mrs Kinder said they spent about a year gathering and growing the plants, and it was a great way to meet other parents.

"It's just the whole community thing really, as much as the plants," she said.

People at the event also had the chance to relax at the cafe and enjoy homemade goods and coffee, as well as live music.

Mrs Kinder said they also had magazines and books for customers and some stayed for hours.

"The food's been amazing and we've had really good comments about the cafe," she said.

Mrs Kinder said they have already started planning next year's event and hope to include workshops on things such as composting and perennial borders.

Mrs Blackburn estimated they would have raised about $6000.
