Plane lands safely at Auckland International Airport after reports of engine failure

There was a full emergency at Auckland International Airport this afternoon with 14 fire appliances responding. The plane landed without incident.

A plane has managed to land safely at Auckland Airport after it reported one of its engines failed.

The Jetstar flight, with 47 passengers on board, had come from Palmerston North.

Northern fire communications shift manager Colin Underwood said they received a report at 1.32pm today that one of the plane's engines had failed.

It resulted in a full-scale emergency which included 14 fire engines responding from around the region.

However, as some crews still made their way to the scene, they were informed the plane had landed safely, and on time, at 1.45pm.

A Jetstar spokeswoman said the flight experienced an issue with one of the aircraft's engines and the Captain elected to shut it down as a precaution.

She said the aircraft, which is certified to safely operate on one engine, landed normally.
