Pizza mega-chain Domino's says it's created 500 more jobs nationwide - but not many of them will be in Wairarapa if history is anything to go by.
Domino's ambitions to grow the business in the region haven't gone to plan with two closures in the past three years.
Last yearDomino's NZ general manager Josh Kilimnik said he was hoping to expand the Domino's business in Wairarapa. The only store, in Masterton, has been shut since late last year. The store opened for a second time in May last year, after the shock closure of the shop in mid-2010.
A Domino's spokesman said trying to find a franchisee could be difficult. Mr Kilimnik said local franchise holders were preferred. The company had had trouble finding a Wairarapa-based franchise holder to open for its second time.
Mr Kilimnik said nationally the company needed more delivery drivers because online orders had increased.
"The cold weather coupled with the company's improved online ordering system has seen an increase in the number of customers wanting their food delivered to their door." An average of six more delivery drivers for each of its 84 stores was needed.
