Pilot cut from wreckage of microlight

A pilot was injured but his passenger escaped unhurt when a microlight aircraft crashed in Waikato tonight.

The crash happened about 6pm at Whitikahu, 11km east of Ngaruawahia.

Police said the pilot was trapped in the wreckage and suffered back injuries.

He was cut out of the aircraft by the fire service and taken to hopital by rescue helicopter.

The passenger was uninjured.

No other details were available.
