The police-led rescue and recovery operation at the Pike River mine has cost nearly $11 million, new figures show.

Police this afternoon released a detailed breakdown of all the expenses incurred after an explosion at the mine near Greymouth killed 29 men on November 19.

The total cost of 232 bills for goods and services received so far is $10,916,871.

More than $4.5 million of that went to the cost of personnel, transport and fuel for the GAG machine used to stabilise the mine environment.

Fuel for the machine's jet engine alone cost $1.22 million, while personnel to operate it cost $2.47 million.

Sending helicopters to the damaged mine cost $846,623, engineering and equipment hireage cost $895,189 and drilling boreholes cost $429,177.

Importing a robot used by the water corporation in Perth to send into the mine cost $142,834.
