Police are ranging far and wide in their search for the man behind an unprovoked killing at a family picnic in South Auckland last month.
Faletoi Kei, 41, was stabbed to death by a stranger after he offered the man a meal during a Sunday picnic at Omana Regional Park, Maraetai,
on April 14.
The killer, described as a tall Maori or Polynesian, aged 25 to 45, probably overweight, and possibly with a tattooed arm, was seen speeding away from the scene in a blue Holden Commodore.
Police say they have followed leads as far south as Taumarunui, but South Auckland is still "the main thrust" of their murder investigation.
They say they have eliminated many of those on a list of about 280 possible suspects compiled by a criminal profiling expert at the beginning of the investigation.
