Person seriously injured in group fight on Auckland’s Ponsonby Rd

A person has been left seriously injured in hospital after a group fight in a central Auckland nightlife hotspot.

Police were called to Ponsonby Rd about 3.10am after a group of people were involved in an altercation, a spokeswoman said.

“One person sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital.”

An early morning reveller told the Herald police had taped off Win-Win Bar after the incident.

Win-Win is among a slew of late-night venues on the Ponsonby Rd hospitality and entertainment strip, remaining open until 3am most days of the week.

A Hato Hone St John spokeswoman said they sent an ambulance, a rapid response unit and a manager to the incident.

“Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition.”

Inquiries into what occurred are continuing, the police spokeswoman said.
