A person was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a brazen burglary in an upmarket Auckland suburb.
Police received a call from a neighbor who witnessed someone breaking into a house on Cockburn St in Grey Lynn just before 8am this morning.
The person allegedly assaulted the occupant at the address and fled on foot soon after.
Police arrived at the scene and located the offender nearby and one person has been taken into custody for questioning.
Police believe nothing had been stolen.

The ambulance arrived at 7:57am this morning with one ambulance crew and one manager.
The crew treated a person in serious condition and transported the person to Auckland City Hospital.
Police are taking the lead on this incident, St John confirmed.
Fire and Emergency NZ confirmed fire crew were called to assist the ambulance in a medical capacity.
