Person killed by train in Wellington

A police spokesperson said they received reports of a person being hit by a train near Tawa just before 8am.

A person is dead after being hit by a train at Tawa in Wellington this morning.

Police have asked people to avoid the area while emergency services are at the scene.

The death will be referred to the coroner.

Trains are now suspended on the Kapiti line between Porirua and Wellington.
