Save A person was hit and killed by a passenger train north of Wellington this afternoon.
The incident occurred at the Linden Ave train station in Tawa about 4.50pm, said Inspector Marty Parker of the central police communications centre.
The southbound train was crowded with passengers travelling towards Wellington.
Buses were
replacing trains while police examined the scene.
Victim Support was offering assistance to witnesses.
