Person dies on Wānaka’s Skyline walking track

A person has died on a popular Wānaka walking track.

Police said they were notified of a death on the Skyline track, which runs between Roys Peak and the Cardrona Valley, near Wānaka, just before 3pm yesterday.

Due to the nature of the terrain, a search and rescue mission was launched to locate the person and transport them from the track.

A body was then recovered with support from a helicopter.

The death will be referred to the coroner.
