Person dies at Ōhope Beach, Bay of Plenty

A person has died after being pulled unresponsive from the water in the eastern Bay of Plenty this afternoon, police say.

The incident occurred at Ōhope Beach, east of Whakatāne, about 3.50pm.

Emergency services were called, but the person died.

The death will be referred to the Coroner, police say.
