Gavin Mitchell has become business development manager for WEL Technologies. He has been in the IT industry for 18 years and has held senior positions with Advantage Group, Prism Software and QED Software.

Fernando Perez has joined the Auckland city office of Craig & Co. He was in the private banking division of Bank of New Zealand and has also worked for Morgan Stanley in London.

The former personnel manager for the Bristol police, Laura Bailey, is the new HR manager at the Carlton Hotel. She has moved to New Zealand with her husband.

Roberts Ejubs has become front-office manager of the Stamford Plaza Auckland and Sean Hallissey chief engineer. Mr Ejubs was at Rydges Hotel in Canberra and has also worked in hotels and resorts in Queensland and Sydney. Mr Hallissey was chief engineer at the Sheraton Auckland Hotel and Towers, and has also worked in hotels in London.

Di Paton is the new general manager of Project K. She is a former probation officer and has also worked in public relations and marketing. For the past three years she has been executive director of Greenpeace.

Six new senior associates have been appointed by Simpson Grierson. John Shackleton is a dispute resolution lawyer with the firm's intellectual property group. Kellie McSweeney and Jane Ramsay are corporate lawyers, while Wendy Embling, Padraig McNamara and Lara Blomfield specialise in public law.

Richard Blackwood is joining the merchant banking team at UPC Securities. He has had 10 years in accounting, banking and finance in New Zealand, Hong Kong and London, and was working as a relationship manager in property finance in the banking industry.

The general manager of the Parkroyal Wellington, David Brown, is the new chairman of Major Accommodation Providers of New Zealand. The organisation represents large local and international hotel owners.

Megan Taylor has been appointed manager of Techknowledge. She has five years' experience in senior technology recruitment. Sally Jackson is a senior consultant for the firm. She has a background in IT sales and marketing recruitment.

The general manager of Sony New Zealand, Rex Chandler, has been promoted to the new position of chief executive. Mr Chandler joined the company in 1989 as administration manager and later became company secretary. He was made general manager in 1997.

Landplan Pacific has appointed four new directors to its board. Mark Townsend, John Abel-Pattinson and Kevin Cox become executive directors while Neil Poulton joins the board as an associate director.
