Four people, including two pedestrians, died in three road accidents at the weekend. Early yesterday, a 24-year-old man was hit by a taxi in Havelock North.
Hastings police said he had been involved in two fights before either lying or falling on a road. He was trappedunder the vehicle for some time and died in hospital. A 25-year-old man from Waihi has been charged with assault.
In Canterbury, also in the early hours, two Burnham people died after the car they were in crashed into a grader at a construction site at Darfield, 45km west of Christchurch. They were Faye Olwyn Te Waa, 52, and Michael Andrew Gold, 46.
In Mt Maunganui, Scott Jarrod Finn, 20, was killed when he was struck by a car at an illegal boy-racer event in an industrial area early on Saturday.
