The pedestrian killed when struck by a truck in Paengaroa has been named as Alexander Trevor Forbes Taiatini.
The 44-year-old man from Te Puke was walking with an associate along State highway 2, near Te Puke when he was hit by a tanker truck at 7.56pm last night.
There areindications alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
The associate was not physically hurt.
Police said the driver of the tanker was left "severely shaken".
Senior Sergeant Ian Campion urged anyone who may have seen a pedestrian in the area and have not yet spoken to police to contact him at Tauranga Police Station on 5774300.
