Pedestrian hit by car in South Dunedin

A pedestrian has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in South Dunedin.

The police serious crash unit is investigating after the woman was hit on Hillside Rd, near the intersection of Law St, about 10.30am this morning.

It appeared the woman was crossing a traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossing when the incident occurred.

A St John spokesman said the woman had been taken to Dunedin Hospital's emergency department with serious injuries.

Two ambulances attended, he said.

A police spokeswoman said police were still at the scene.

"The serious crash unit have been notified and police are currently speaking to witnesses,'' she said.
