Pedestrian hit by car in Birkdale

The critically injured victim of an Auckland car crash is understood to be a young adult.

A car hit the person in Birkdale on Auckland's North Shore.

The St John ambulance service attended the crash at about 8.20am. Officers treated and took the person to hospital.

The collision happened at the intersection of Birkdale and Beach Haven Rds.

A Northcote College student - a pedestrian who was not involved in the collision - called the ambulance service.

"We have been offering support to that student," said college principal Vicki Barrie.

The police said the serious crash unit was investigating the collision.
