Pedestrian hit by car in Auckland

An 87-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in on Mt Wellington Highway in east Auckland this afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly after midday.

Police said in a statement that the woman suffered serious head injuries and taken to hospital. Her family has been advised.

The driver of the vehicle was helping police with their inquiries and officers were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

The police serious crash unit is investigating.
