Pedestrian dies after truck crash in Kaikōura, SH1 reopens

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a truck in Peketā, near Kaikōura, today.

Emergency services were called to the crash, between Inland Kaikōura Rd and Rakanui Rd, about 9.20am.

Police said the pedestrian died at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination and State Highway 1 reopened about 2.40pm.

Police said they are providing support to the victim’s next of kin.

Police said they would like to thank the emergency response teams who assisted at the scene today, and motorists for their understanding and patience.
