Chad Parsons snared the quinella in the regional one men's grade at the Wairarapa Shoe Clinic and Fairmont Estate Winery Wairarapa closed tennis championships played at the Masterton Tennis Centre on Saturday.
Parsons won both the singles and doubles titles, the latter in partnership with his Masterton clubmate Matt Bunny.
There were just six entries in the singles and the two unbeaten players in qualifying round play, Parsons and Opaki's Brett Dymond, met in the final.
Spectators were treated to some hard-hitting play from both men and while the scoreline of 6-3, 6-3 in Parsons' favour would suggest a comfortable win, Dymond twice missed vital points which could have given him the lead in both sets.
Only three combinations were involved in the doubles where Parsons and Bunny prevailed in both their round-robin games to clinch the title. Runners-up were Chris Davidson (Opaki) and Alistair McWilliam (Gladstone).
The regional two men's singles attracted the same small entry as the regional one, six in the singles and three in the doubles.
The singles final saw Mike King (Opaki) up against Scott Day (Gladstone) with King using his variety of topspin shots to secure a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Those two players then combined to take the doubles crown from Greg and Corbin Jolliffe.
No women's events were placed because of a paucity of entries.
