Palmerston North school hit by fire

A toilet and shower block on a school sports field in Palmerston North was badly damaged in a fire yesterday morning.

Station Officer Gary Hills said the fire at Queen Elizabeth College was reported about 8.45am.

The fire took about 15 minutes to put out.

Mr Hills said the building suffered extensive smoke damage but only about 5 per cent of the structure was affected by fire.

Police and the fire service were investigating, he said.
