The 95-year-old man who died when his car collided with a truck near Palmerston North has been named.

Valdis Pavlovskis, also known as Peter, died on Thursday after the crash about 1.45pm on No1 Line, Longburn, south of Palmerston North.

The serious crash unit is investigating the cause of the accident.
