Pair in court after police pursuit

Two people have appeared in court this morning after a police pursuit in North Canterbury last night that ended in a car catching fire.

The pursuit started about 11pm on Tram Rd, in Ohoka, police say.

After a 10-minute pursuit, officers laid down spikes and the car was finally stopped on Rangiora Woodend Rd.

A police spokeswoman said the car then caught fire, but was quickly put out by firefighters.

Christopher Warren Corfield and Michelle Susan Wallace, aged 32 and from Kaiapoi, appeared from custody in Christchurch District Court this morning.

Corfield, a mechanic, faces a charge of driving recklessly and one of dishonestly taking fa Mitsubishi Lancer valued at $10,000.

He was remanded in custody without plea until September 30.

Wallace has been charged with dishonestly getting into a car. She was remanded in custody without plea for an appearance via audio visual link on September 29.
