She aced her level 3 NCEA exams at only Year 12 and now a bright spark Auckland student has scooped gold in an international geography competition.
The latest accolade for 17-year-old Oxana Repina from Rutherford College in West Auckland is the first gold medal picked up by New Zealand at
the International Geography Olympiad, which was held in Russia last month.
Gold medals are awarded to those students who demonstrate exceptional practical and theoretical geography skills. The competition was held in Tver, 200km outside Moscow, where around 160 students from more than 40 countries took part in a series of geography tests over five days, with 13 being awarded gold medals.
Oxana achieved the second-highest results of all participating students aged from 16 to 19, and was the only girl to receive a gold medal in this year's competition.
Oxana was joined in the New Zealand team by fellow students Alysha Johnson from Avondale College, Luke Dixon from Napier Boys High School, and Rengen Parlane from Westlake Boys High.
