The Auckland SPCA is so overwhelmed with cats, dogs and rabbits it is offering a half-price sale to find the animals homes.
The Mangere-based Auckland Animal Village has 482 cats, 123 dogs, and 39 rabbits, and has run out of room for incoming animals, animal services manager Tracy Dunn said.
"We're at crisis point because we must be able to continue to rescue animals in need but we've nowhere to put them," Ms Dunn said. "We really need the public to help us out."
Ms Dunn said adopted animals come vet-checked, de-sexed, micro-chipped, wormed, treated for fleas, and have had initial vaccinations.
"It's the most cost-effective way of getting a pet," she said. "If you got a kitten or puppy from a friend you would still have to pay for all these costs after you bring your pet home. And the money you pay us goes directly to saving other animals in need."
