Tributes have flowed for a Featherston man who died from injuries he received in a vicious attack at the weekend.
Bunches of flowers were left at the foot of a police cordon thrown up around the Fitzherbert St boarding house where 40-year-old Glen Jason Jones was discovered bloody and unconsciousshortly after midnight.
Mr Jones died in Wellington Hospital about 5am on Saturday and a homicide inquiry was launched later that day.
Online tributes to Mr Jones, who worked at the Featherston Community Supermarket, included words from Judy Scott that recalled his "cheeky smile and blush" and how he was always willing to help.
Samantha Cameron said Mr Jones was an amazing man who would "be so missed by the entire town" and Lara Toderascu remembered that he "was always a polite and friendly man whenever we crossed paths".
Aileen Saba posted of the grief the death of Mr Jones had sparked for her and her family.
"We are really going to miss you. So many in this close-knit community are heart-broken. It's going to be really hard not seeing your smiling face ..."
Karen Burt recalled the fond memories she had of Mr Jones "through the Rugby Years" and while sharing the stage at karaoke evenings.
